During a very busy week of meetings, work and presentations, the Vectio team has been attending two of the world’s most important transport and mobility events in May simultaneously. On the one hand, part of the Latin American team, led by our Technical Director Jorge Rodriguez, attended the Smart City Expo in Santiago del Estero (Argentina) on 20 and 21 May, an event that brought together a large number of exhibitors in this city in northern Argentina. According to the event organisers, its mission is to empower cities and foster urban innovation worldwide. Through the promotion of social innovation, the establishment of partnerships and the identification of commercial opportunities, the event is dedicated to creating a better future for cities and their citizens. With thousands of attendees, over 150 activities and leading national and international figures, the Smart City Expo Santiago del Estero 2026 once again positioned Santiago del Estero as one of the main venues for debate on innovation, sustainability and digital transformation in Argentina.

For its part, the Transport Research Arena (TRA) is Europe’s largest and most prestigious conference on research and innovation in the transport sector, organised every two years by the European Commission and leading professional partners. The TRA brings together researchers, industry experts, policy-makers and representatives of civil society to explore new solutions for the future of sustainable and smart mobility. It is the place where ideas are translated into action and where the European transport community comes together to shape the systems and technologies of tomorrow. The theme of the 2026 edition, ‘Re-Generation in Transport’, reflects a collective call for renewal in response to social, environmental and technological challenges. It focuses on engaging the next generation of thinkers, innovators and leaders to drive the transformation towards cleaner, more efficient and forward-looking transport systems. Our colleague, Dr Shireen Al Suleiman, presented her work ‘Are User’s Typologies Influencing Bus Satisfaction? A Cluster Analysis between Oviedo and Tangier’ at this year’s TRA, carried out under the supervision of UPM professor and former director of TRANSyT, Andrés Monzón.
