Traffic Engineering Assessment in Bogotá (Colombia)

PPPs & Concessions

The company wants to know the traffic that circulates through three points of the network of high capacity roads and conventional roads of Colombia, in the aforementioned axis of Bogotá-Tunja-Barbosa, identifying the flows and trajectories currently chosen by drivers in their daily and extraordinary mobility (weekends), for a full week.

For this assessment, two types of counting were done, one of reading of license plates in order to identify trajectories to obtain origins and destinations, as well as time of passage for each point, and another count parallel to the previous one of volume to obtain AADT by time slot and type of vehicles.

For the recognition of the license plates of the vehicles that travel along the road network of the Bogotá-Tunja-Barbosa axis, 6 cameras were installed. The installation began on Monday, August 7, after several administrative eventualities of the permits which forced to reinforce human and material equipment in order to reach the objective that the measurements begin simultaneously on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 00:00 hours. This work was carried out with an all-in-one license plate recognition camera (license plate recognition camera, OCR analyzer and LED intelligent illuminator).
