Given the need to develop an Optimisation and Viability Plan for the Pola de Siero – Oviedo public transport line, ALSA decided to commission Vectio to carry it out.
The purpose of this assessment was to provide ALSA with the necessary information that would allow the Pola de Siero – Oviedo line to be viable in terms of optimisation, economic organisation and business management.
To justify the need for a transport route, it is essential to determine the current and future demand of the system, as well as to analyse what is currently on offer and the existing need to provide an efficient, convenient, safe and economic service.
To conduct this assessment, the following works were carried out:
- ATC surveys with video analysis in the main lines of the Pola de Siero – Oviedo concession: cameras with geo-positioning were installed to find out the level of occupancy, the number of passengers getting on and off at each stop, calculate the commercial speed and the demand for buses.
- Analysis of capacity and frequency of service of the Pola de Siero – Oviedo lines using the Transportation Capacity Manual methodology
- Construction of the future travellers trend model
