Study of ATC in the vicinity of Atocha station (Madrid)

Infrastructure & Engineering

The Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes Station is one of the most important mobility hubs in the capital of Spain. Its location in the center of Madrid makes it the busiest cab rank in the country and a hub for many urban and interurban bus lines. In June 2023 the Council of Ministers approved an allocation of 497 million € for its expansion and improvement.

The client asked Vectio to carry out a study of ATC in the vicinity of the station, for which purpose artificial vision and license plate reading cameras were installed. In addition, manual counts of cab and VTC queues and of the time taken by both cab and VTC customers to get in and out of the station were used. In this way, the field work will allow obtaining vehicle flows, times and queue lengths, which will later be processed, offering as a result different aspects of the traffic in the vicinity of Atocha station.
